Three people were taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross Sunday following a two-vehicle rear-end crash in a blinding rain on the Valdosta Highway at its intersection with 7th Street, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
One of the drivers, Juan China-Pinchal, 31, of Douglas, and two passengers, Marie Villanueva, 12, of Rose Street, Homerville, and a baby, also named Juan China-Pinchal, 5 months old, Douglas, were taken to the emergency room with minor injuries, said Royal.
The wreck occurred as Juan China-Pinchal was driving a 1997 GMC van westbound on the Valdosta Highway, approaching the intersection with 7th Street. Royal said China-Pinchal slowed down and his van, which was occupied by eight people, was hit in the rear by a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Walter Joseph Fitzgerald, 35, of Homerville, said Royal. He was not hurt. Both vehicles had major damage, the sheriff said.
Georgia State Patrol Trooper Miles Cooper was in charge of the investigation, assisted by Deputy Paul Carter.
Ware County Emergency Medical Service technicians and Ware County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene to assist with the 2:16 p.m. accident.
