A Waycross woman killed by a train early Sunday has been identified by the Waycross Police Depratment.
Jessica Elaine Parker, 41, died about 2:44 a.m. Sunday, said Chief Tony Tanner.
“The investigation revealed that Parker was walking northbound along South Nichols Street when she disregarded the railroad crossing arm barrier that was activated,” said Tanner. “Parker failed to stop for the railroad grade crossing barrier and crossed in front of the oncoming train.”
Tanner said the woman was struck with the front of the lead CSX engine. Her body came to rest approximately 70 feet west of the crossing, he said.
She was pronounced deceased at the seen by the Ware County deputy coroner. Her body has been sent to the State of Georgia Crime lab for autopsy, Tanner said.
No charges have been filed in this case.
