RACEPOND — A Waycross woman was killed Friday when the vehicle in which she was a passenger crashed on U.S. 1 South and overturned, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Sharon Lynn Crews, 51, died at the scene of the 6:45 a.m. crash, said Rhonda Swinea, GSP Waycross post secretary.
Crews was a passenger in a 2003 Toyota Sequoia driven by a 16-year-old boy, whom the GSP declined to identify because of his age, said Swinea.
He was injured and transported by Charlton County EMS to Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross, Swinea said.
She said that there were no others in the vehicle.
The vehicle was southbound on U.S. 1 about a mile from the Charlton County line when the driver lost control of the steering and over-corrected, said Swinea. The vehicle overturned over a distance of 30 feet and came to rest on its roof.
Ware County Fire Department personnel responded to the scene and used the Hurst “Jaws-of-Life” extrication tools to free the woman from the vehicle.
Sgt. Chad Woods investigated the accident.
