A Waycross woman was arrested Wednesday on a variety of drugs and firearms charges after she called 911 to report a home invasion that she subsequently admitted was a bogus alarm.
Ware County deputies were dispatched to a house in the 3000 block of Carswell Avenue where an investigation led them to arrest Lori Ann Herrin, 46, said Ware County Sheriff’s Capt. Neil Skerratt.
Sgt. Bobby Aldridge and Detective Mike Thrift arrived at the house at about 9:25 p.m. Thrift detected the odor of marijuana and elicited an admittance from Herrin that there had been no home invasion, rather that “she had seen headlights approaching her residence,” Skerratt said. Through persuasive  interrogation, Thrift compelled Herrin to admit that she was afraid someone was “en route to her house to steal the marijuana,” Skerratt said, which led her to call 911 to make the false claim.
Skerratt said a search warrant was obtained and, with the woman’s consent and assistance, Thrift and Aldridge discovered a large quantity of marijuana in the house, said Skerratt.  The officers found nearly four pounds of marijuana, along with digital scales and several firearms.
Herrin was taken into custody and booked into the Ware County jail on charges of possession of drug-related items, felony possession of marijuana, possession of a Schedule II drug (methamphetamine), felony criminal attempt to commit manufacturing of marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and other miscellaneous charges, said Skerratt.
A second person who resides at the home, a man who was not named, is now being sought on warrants that will charge him with felony possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute, criminal attempt to manufacture marijuana, possession of drug related items and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, said Skerratt.
Thrift and Aldridge were assisted by Sgt. Robert Weiss and Detective James Cox who arrived at the crime scene later.
Herrin remained in the Ware County jail.
