BLACKSHEAR — A woman who was at the home of another woman who drowned July 1 in a pool at her Burney Branch Road home has been arrested and charged with tampering with evidence, said Blackshear Police Chief Chris Wright.
Lynn Davis Mattox, 59, of Jacobs Drive, was arrested this morning and booked into the Pierce County jail, charged with tampering with evidence and possession of marijuana. Wright said that before lawmen arrived at the home on July 1, Mattox is accused of removing numerous drug-related articles and marijuana and concealing them from law enforcement officials.
“We have only received a preliminary report that Kay Carter died of drowning,” said Wright. “We are still waiting on the toxicology reports and the final autopsy report. This investigation is far from over.”
The body of Carter, 58, was discovered at her home about 7 p.m. on July 1. Rescue officials attempted CPR but were unsuccessful. She was taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross where she was pronounced dead later that day, Wright said.
“We still have an active investigation into this incident,” said Wright.
