An Alma woman was arrested Saturday during a traffic stop after she was found to be in possession of marijuana and a Schedule IV drug, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
Linda Faye Woodard, 39, of Sessoms Road, Alma, is charged with possession of marijuana, possession of a Schedule IV drug (alprazolam), possession of drugs not in their original container and a seatbelt violation, said Royal.
She was a passenger in a tan compact car that was stopped on South Georgia Parkway near Forks Road in the Millwood community. Royal said neither she nor the driver was wearing a seatbelt when they were observed by Sgt. Michael Ray.
As Sgt. Ray approached the vehicle, Royal said, he detected a strong odor of burned or burning marijuana and then deployed his K-9. The dog “alerted” to the presence of drugs in the vehicle.
Royal said a purse in the trunk of the car was found to contain several illegally possessed alprazolam pills. A paper bag with a plastic bag inside it that contained marijuana was also found in the purse, he said.
The driver, Wendell David Woodard, 49, of Sessoms Road, Alma, was charged only with a seatbelt violation, said Royal.
Linda Faye Woodard remained in the Ware County jail this morning, the sheriff said.
