Two men were arrested Thursday on drug charges when Ware County lawmen executed search warrants at a local motel and raided two separate rooms containing illegal drugs, said Ware County Sheriff’s Detective Lt. Neil Skerratt.
Kendrick Jamal Kirkwood, 29, of Woodville, Texas, and Devan Gary Bryson, 26, of Sweetwater Circle, Blackshear, were taken into custody by Ware lawmen, said Skerratt.
Kirkwood is charged with two counts of possession of a Schedule II drug and possession of marijuana. It was also noted that he was wanted on an active probation warrant in Texas. He remained in the Ware County jail this morning.
Bryson is charged with possession of methamphetamine, said Skerratt. He also remained in the jail this morning.
Sgt. Mike Thrift, Detective Freddy Henderson, Deputy Brian Newman and Lt. Skerratt, along with state officers Caleb Worley, Greg Nettles and Tasha Roberts arrived at the motel in the 1700 block of Memorial Drive at 3:30 p.m. Thursday anticipating serving a warrant.
Skerratt said Kirkwood answered the door to one room and Thrift detected an overwhelming odor of burning marijuana. A search warrant was then issued and Thrift and other officers searched the room, finding two 16-ounce containers of a mixture of prommethazine and codeine, a Schedule II drug, an some marijuana, Skerratt said.
Bryson was found in a room with two other people, but they were not charged as Bryson claimed possession of all the methamphetamine found, said Skerratt.
Both suspects are scheduled to appear before a magistrate Saturday morning at the jail courtroom, Skerratt said.
