The Waycross Middle School Bulldogs baseball team earned a win over Brantley County Middle School Thursday in a preseason tournament 7-6.
The tournament was hosted by Ware County Middle School.
The Bulldogs got behind in the second inning 6-3 but were not done battling as they would score one run in the third inning and another three runs in the fourth inning before the time limit forced both teams off the field and gave the Bulldogs a game-shortened victory.
“We had too many walks in the first two innings and when you couple that with a few mental errors, things can get out of hand quickly,” said Waycross Middle head coach Kris Tillman. “Coach Varnadore and myself preach throwing strikes, making the routine play and putting the ball in play. Once we settled down and started doing those things, good things happened for us.”
Jeremiah O’Hara got the start on the mound for the Bulldogs and surrendered two hits with two strikeouts and five walks. O’Hara was relieved in the third inning by Noah Hall, who who gave up no hits, no walks and recorded one strikeout.
Leaders at the plate for the Bulldogs were Jeremiah O’Hara (1-2, two runs scored), Isaiah Sharpe (1-2), Miles Briggs (1-2, two runs scored), Walker Petty (1-2) and Nathan Hale (one run scored).
LaDedric Castellanos would score two runs as a courtesy runner for Sharpe.
The Bulldogs travel to Baxley Thursday to take on Appling County Middle with first pitch set for 4 p.m.
