For the second night in a row, Ware County High School in the 700 block of Victory Drive was burglarized by someone who stole money from vending machines.
Waycross Police Capt. Benji Hersey said this morning that burglars again entered the building early Wednesday and ransacked vending machines, stealing loose change out of them.
Wednesday’s police report contained a similar news item. Detective Teresa Grant said someone entered the school building Tuesday morning (after midnight) and stole “some items,” but she did not have a list of what was stolen.
Hersey said this morning that the only thing stolen in the Tuesday burglary was coins and dollar bills from drink and snack machines in a commons area.
Both burglaries took place in the wee hours of the mornings, between 1 and 4 o’clock.
Contacted at the Ware Board of Education’s central office this morning, Darlene Tuten said school officials are declining to comment on the events.
“We have no comment at this time other than school is in session and the students are all safe,” said Tuten. “It is an open investigation and we cannot comment.”
She also declined to say what if any surveillance equipment is in place and in operation at the school.
