RAYBON — A Nahunta man was seriously injured Sunday morning when the pickup truck he was driving crashed on the Raybon Rock Road, overturning numerous times, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Matthew Sheets, 20, was taken by medical helicopter to UF Health in Jacksonville, Fla. for treatment of his injuries, said Steve Drury, GSP Brunswick post spokesman.
Driving a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, Sheets was northbound on Raybon Rock Road rounding a left-hand curve at a high rate of speed, said Drury. The out-of-control truck veered onto the east shoulder for 162 feet, then re-entered the roadway for 256 feet as he over-corrected the steering, Drury said. He said the truck then ran off the east shoulder spinning clockwise, struck a ditch and some trees and overturned several times.
The truck came to a final stop 203 feet off the roadway, Drury said.
Trooper Greg Stone investigated the 6:54 a.m. accident.
