NAHUNTA — A Hortense man was injured Monday when the pickup truck he was driving went out of control on U.S. Highway 301 north of Nahunta, entered a ditch and struck a tree, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Trent Knight, 36, was taken by Brantley County Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of injuries he suffered in the 2:09 p.m. crash, said Steve Drury, GSP Brunswick post spokesman. Friends of Knight said he had a badly broken arm after impact with the windshield of the truck.
Driving a 1990 Chevrolet pickup truck, Drury said Knight was northbound on U.S. 301 north of Nahunta when he crossed the roadway onto the westside shoulder. Drury said after about 72 feet on the shoulder, the truck entered a field and struck a tree.
Trooper Sherman McClain issued the driver with a warning for expired tag, failure to maintain a lane and a seatbelt violation, said Drury.
One of Knight’s friends said Monday afternoon that Knight had a dollar bill on the dashboard and his window was down. As the money began to blow, Knight reached for it and inadvertently snatched his steering wheel to the left.
