A routine traffic stop for a headlight violation on Lee Avenue at 12:30 Thursday morning resulted in the seizure of more than a pound of processed marijuana and the arrest of three occupants of the vehicle, a 2012 Mazda car, said Waycross Police Sgt. Teresa Grant.
Zamari Zarquan Boyd, 25, Xavier Thomas, 29, and Shenea Jakivia Reynolds, 24, all of Waycross, were each charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, said Grant.
Thomas jumped out of the car and fled on foot but was quickly apprehended, said Grant. He was additionally charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer, she said.
Police observed the vehicle on Lee Avenue just after midnight Thursday morning being driven without its headlights. They made a traffic stop on the car. Grant said officers employed a K-9 which delivered a positive response to the presence of drugs.
Inside the car, officers found a large bag of marijuana weighing more than a pound in the back seat under a jacket and a smaller bag of marijuana in a cup holder, said Grant.
The suspects were taken to the Ware County jail and booked on the charges.
