John Thomas Hudson
John Thomas Hudson, 77, also known as Willie Norman Hudson, departed this life on Friday (Oct. 23, 2015) at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross after an illness.
He was born Nov. 13, 1937 in Homerville to the late Albert Hudson and Marie Williams Hudson.
He grew up in Waycross where he received his formal education from the public school system and attended Center High School until the 10th grade and finished his secondary education in New York, N.Y. He received a degree in banking and finance from Pace University in New York City and furthered his education by attending the University of Wisconsin where he received an advance degree in banking.
He retired as a Wall Street (New York City) assistant banker. After retirement and living in Valley Cottage, N.Y. he moved back to Waycross in 2012.
Those left to cherish his memory include a devoted daughter, Dinorah Hudson (husband, David), of Valley Cottage, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Tiana Poindexter, of the U.S. Coast Guard, and Gage Poindexter, of Valley Cottage, N.Y.; siblings, Odessa Roger (husband, Owen), of Parsippany, N.J., Bernice Parker, of Brunswick; Jackie Hudson, of Bronx, N.Y.; Henry Hudson (wife, Zadie), of Yonkers, N.Y., and Richard Hudson (wife, Irene), of Waycross; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Friends are being received at the Hudson residence, 2200 Riverside Ave.
A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Mason Temple Church of God in Christ, 800 Daniel St., with his niece, Apostle Janice W. Thomas. offering words of comfort.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Fluker Funeral Home, 985 Ossie Davie Parkway.
The body will lie in repose at the church from 9 a.m. to the hour of service Wednesday.
Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Edward Mikell
AUGUSTA — Edward Mikell, 71, of Blackshear, passed away Saturday morning (Oct. 24, 2015) at Doctor’s Hospital in Augusta.
Born in Waycross, Sept. 7, 1944, he lived in Bacon and Pierce counties most of his life. He was retired from D.L. Lee & Sons where he worked as a meat processor for 35 years.
He was of the Baptist faith and loved to watch wrestling. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing and just being outdoors.
He was a son of the late Columbus “Lummie” and Delnora Melton Mikell. He was also preceded in death by his twin sister, Evelyn Mikell.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Lucy Todd Mikell, of Blackshear; a step-daughter, Marie (Irvin) Smith, of Blackshear; two step-sons, Kenneth (Alicia) Aldridge and Claude (Sandra) Aldridge, all of Waycross; a sister, Laverne Deen, of Alma; four brothers, Lewis Mikell, Joe Mikell and Tom Mikell, all of Alma, and Buddy Mikell, of Baxley; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 11 o’clock in the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Interment will be in the Kettle Creek Cemetery in Ware County.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

A funeral for Maude J. Strickland took place Sunday afternoon in the Music Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clay Thomas officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Daniel Snare, Donald Snare, Reginald Strickland, Ken East, Lewis East and Larry East.

Julian Martin Wilson
A graveside service for Julian Martin Wilson took place Saturday afternoon in Kettle Creek Cemetery with the Rev. Malcolm Mathison officiating.
Pallbearers were Sergio Alvira, Anthony Booth, Earl Bailey, Mack Hay, Gary Corbitt and Daniel Corbitt.
Arrangements were with Music Funeral Home.

Thelma H. Sweat
A funeral for Thelma L. Hickox Sweat was held Saturday afternoon at Rome Primitive Baptist Church with Johnny Lee and Alvin Johnson officiating.
Burial followed in Hephzibah Cemetery in Dixie Union with the Rev. Larry Sweat officiating.
Pallbearers were Larry Sweat Jr., Rob Sweat, Ricky Sweat, Terry Sweat, Danny Sweat and Andy Hickox.
