Barbara Moore Thrift
Barbara Moore Thrift, 72, died Thursday night (March 12, 2015) at her residence following an extended illness.
She was a native of Pearson, and lived most of her life in Waycross before making her home in Brantley County for the past 34 years. She was preceded in death by her father, Loyd J. Moore, and a daughter, Tammy Ketchem.
She attended Wacona High School and later took business education courses through Okefenokee Technical Institute. She was the office manager for Dr. Daniel B. Cox for many years.
She was a member of Pleasant Valley Baptist Church, secretary of the Class of Love Sunday School class, was a member of the church choir and served on various church committees.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Roy Thrift, of Waycross; her children, Tina Shugart Kerr (husband, Bill), of Jacksonville, Fla., Terri S. Fletcher, of Waycross, Tina Dykes (husband, Walt), of Atkinson, Danny Thrift, of Atkinson, and Michelle Price, of Waycross; 11 grandchildren, Jessica Ciarimboli (Jeffrey), Jeremy Joiner (Jennifer), Kevin Ketchem (Stacey), Jason Ketchem, Heather Harrell (Corey), Alex Fletcher (Lindsay), Jamey Fletcher, Dylan Dykes (Tammy), Delvin Dykes (Cecilia), Brittini Price and Lexi Price; 14 great-grandchildren; her mother, Zonie Lee Vaughan (husband, Tommy), of Blackshear; three brothers, Chuck “L.C.” Moore (wife, Debi), of Summerville, Roger Moore (wife, Gayle), of Jacksonville, Fla., and Alton Moore (wife, Lucille), of Byron; two step-sisters, Kathy Jeffers (husband, John), and Vicky Vaughan; a step-brother, Jimmy Vaughan (wife, Bernadette); and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral was held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with the Rev. Bobby Russell officiating. Burial was in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Jeremy Joiner, Kevin Ketchem, Jason Ketchem, Alex Fletcher, Jamey Fletcher, Brittini Price, Lexi Price, Dylan Dykes and Devin Dykes. Members of the Class of Love Sunday Class and the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class served as honorary pallbearers.

Phyllis Gunter Smith
HOMERVILLE — Phyllis Gail Gunter Smith, 76, passed away Sunday (March 15, 2015) at her daughter’s residence, following an extended illness.
She was born May 21, 1938 in Homerville, daughter of the late Dolvin Gunter and Nora Lee Bennett Gunter. She was a store clerk and attended New Vision Church of God. She was preceded in death by one brother, Emory Gunter.
Survivors are four daughters, Kim Lee, of Homerville, Laura Smith, of Waycross, Shelly Felder, of Argyle, and Bobbie Gayle Moore, of Hahira; one son and a daughter-in-law, Jim and Marie Moody, of Homerville; three sisters, Lillian Turner, of Homerville, Mary Pierce, of Baxley, and Rose Adams, of Hahira; 12 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral will be held, Wednesday at 2 p.m. at New Vision Church of God.
Interment will be in the Pine Forest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening from 6 until 8 o’clock at the funeral home. The body will be carried to the church one hour prior to the service.

David Earl Scurry, 63, of Waycross, died Monday afternoon (March 16, 2015) at his residence after a sudden illness.
