FOLKSTON — A youth pastor from Midway was injured early Tuesday when his vehicle ran off Georgia 252 after he made a U-turn upon realizing the road was closed because of bridge construction, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Garrett Guzik, 33, was taken by Charlton County ambulance to Southeast Georgia Health System, Camden County campus, for treatment of head injuries following the 4 a.m. accident, said Amanda Dixon, GSP Waycross post secretary.
Driving a Honda CRV, Guzik was eastbound on Georgia 252 when he realized the road was closed at mile marker 9. Dixon said he made a U-turn at the bridge where the road closed signs are located and began to head westbound on Georgia 252.
The vehicle then left the roadway onto the north shoulder for 185 feet, spinning down an embankment. Dixon said the sport utility vehicle rolled onto its roof before coming to rest.
Trooper Myles Cooper wrote in his report that he suspected that there was drug use on the part of the driver, and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
