A Waycross man was arrested by Waycross police Monday for concealing the death of another after they found the body of the man’s mother at her home where he was continuing to live while spending money from her bank account, said Waycross Police Lt. Benji Hersey.
Rodney Harold Dillon, 53, of Carrie Drive, was taken into custody Monday, said Hersey. He was being held in the Ware County jail.
Hersey explained that last week detectives received information about a possible missing person. Detectives discovered inconsistencies with information that was provided, saying she had been in a care facility in Florida, Hersey said.
“Her money was being spent here,” Hersey said. “A search warrant was secured for the Carrie Drive address and police found the woman dead in her home, along with him (residing there).”
Hersey said Dillon had not reported his mother’s death and had continued to live in the home with the body while using her financial resources.
In 2003, Dillon ran for mayor of Waycross, unsuccessfully challenging the mayor at that time, John Fluker.
Police did not confirm how long the man’s mother had been dead.
