Joseph C. Walker
BLACKSHEAR — A memorial service for Joseph Columbus “Joe” Walker, 83, was held Friday morning at 11 o’clock in the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel.
Officiating were Donnie Harris and Dr. Bill Young.
Honorary pallbearers were J.R. Murphy, Jack Ingalls, Jerry Drews, Warren Fox, Bob Paul, Robert Landrum, Joe McCarthy, Pat Dixon, Linwood Hamilton, Marvin Powers, Russell Popham, Terry Lee, Buddy Wilson, Buddy Ponsell, Ronnie Crews, Joyce Strickland, Dorothy Justice, Linda Harris and Chris Brown.
Memorialization was by cremation.
He passed away Wednesday afternoon (June 10, 2015) at Mayo Health System in Waycross.
Born in Patterson July 8, 1931, he lived in Nahunta for many years before moving back to Pierce County several years ago. He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Korean Conflict for which he was wounded and received a Purple Heart.
He was a retired office manager for OREMC and gave credit to the late Sam Dubose for being very influential in his life with his bookkeeping career. To Mr. Walker, family was everything and always came first, but he also found time to enjoy playing golf and coaching little league sports. He was a member of Central Baptist Church.
He was a son of the late Willis and Emma Davis Walker. He was also preceded in death by five sisters, Lola Mae Winn, Inez Ivey, IvaLee Gill, Claris Sweat and Laverne Shipes, and by all four of his brothers, Preston Walker, Leston Walker, Horace Walker and Owen “Bo” Walker.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Sidney Hilton Walker, of Blackshear; his daughter and son-in-law, JoAnn and Rob Taylor, of Blackshear; two sons, Michael Walker, of Dade City, Fla., and Jeff Walker, of Nahunta; a sister, Dorothy Jeffers, of Dover, Fla.; five grandchildren, Andrew Walker, Lindsay Walker, Stetson Stegall, Ragen Taylor and Carsen Taylor; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church, 201 Ava St., Waycross, Ga. 31501 or to a charity of one’s choosing.
The Walker family would like to thank Dr. Amaram, Dr. Srinivasan, Dr. Nayak, Dr. Choudhri and the late Dr. W.B. Dial for all they did over the years for Mr. Walker.

Dorris E. McKenzie
Dorris Edward “Spooky” McKenzie, 75, of Hortense, passed away Thursday (June 11, 2015) at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick following an extended illness.
Born in Baxley, he was the son of Henry Roscoe McKenzie and Mary Magdalena Green McKenzie. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Mack and Bobby McKenzie.
He was a self-employed carpenter, and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, David McKenzie (Sherry), of Hortense, and Riley McKenzie, of Hortense; two daughters and sons-in-law, Angela Chesser (Gary), and Beth Hogan (Matthew), of Hortense; six grandchildren, Gary, Phawn, Rhea, Ricky, David and Trevor; two great-grandchildren, Landon and Dylan McKenzie; a sister, Johnnie Ruth Wilson, of Hortense; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Frye Funeral Home with the Rev. Charles Florey officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

Loretha Tisby
Loretha Tisby, daughter of the late John and Orlanda Tisby, passed away at Orange Park Medical Center in Orange Park, Fla., Thursday (June 11, 2015) after a brief illness.
Friends are being received at the home of her sister, Bernice Johnson, 1706 Thomas St., Waycross.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Perry Brothers Funeral Home, 1100 Ossie Davis Parkway, Waycross.

A graveside funeral service for Linda Davis Bennett was held Friday morning at Zion Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Glenn Lindsey officiating.
