BLACKSHEAR — Mary Lee Pender-Thomas, 82, of 1506 Walter St., Waycross, passed away early Monday morning (July 13, 2015) at Hospice Satilla Hospice House, Waycross.
She was born Jan. 12, 1933 in Mershon to the late Millie and Charlie Howard and the late Albert Wakely. She transitioned to a home not made by man’s hand on Monday (July 13, 2015). She was a long-term resident of the Satilla Care Center since 2001.
She attended school and graduated from Lee Street High School in Pierce County. After high school she married L.V. Pender and from this union came two sons, Donald Pender and Leo Pender. Later in life she married Benjamin Thomas. Both were members of Piney Grove Freewill Baptist Church in Blackshear until failure of health.
She was preceded in death by husbands, L.V. Pender and Benjamin Thomas, sons, Donald Pender and Leo Pender, and brothers, Albert Howard, Laydell Howard, Scott Howard and Johnnie Howard.
Those left to cherish her memories include two granddaughters, Tiffany Gibbs, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Leslie Pender, of Waycross; two grandsons, Leo L. Pender, of Alma, and Cornelius Pender, of Waycross; a step-daughter, Marion (Donald) Murphy, of Waycross; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, daughters-in-law, sisters-in-law, and other extended family members.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the Satilla Care Center, Dr. William Alan Morton and staff, Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross, doctors, emergency room, CCU, “3 Main” staff and the Hospice House staff members.
Visitation will take place Saturday from 4 until 6 p.m. in the chapel of Rainge Funeral Home.
The funeral will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Freewill Baptist Church in Blackshear.
The cortege will assemble at 10:15 a.m. Monday at 1506 Walter St. in Waycross.
Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery on Moore Street in Blackshear.
Rainge Memorial Chapel, Inc. Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Rufus P. Thrift Jr.
A funeral for Rufus P. Thrift Jr. was held Thursday at Music Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Rodney Thrift officiating.
Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Greg Davis, Trey Dowling, Alvin Fanucci, Robert Fanucci, Danny Freeman and Tate Tatum.
Military Rites were provided by the United States Army.
Music Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
