BLACKSHEAR — An employee of Amerimed, a private ambulance service in Ware County, was arrested about early today after he took one of the company’s ambulances for a ride while he was under the influence, said Pierce County Sheriff Ramsey Bennett.
Brandon Conner Hall, 30, of an Albany Avenue address in Waycross, was taken into custody about 5 o’clock this morning after a Pierce County deputy made a traffic stop on Ware Street at Hacklebarney Road, said Bennett.
“We got a call about 5 a.m. that one of their ambulances was missing,” said Bennett. “The GPS showed that it was in Pierce County and gave a general location. One of our deputies made contact with the vehicle and got it stopped.”
Hall is charged in Pierce County with driving under the influence, failure to maintain a lane and possession of a Schedule IV drug and drug related items, said Bennett. He was being held in the Pierce County jail.
“He was an employee of the ambulance company but he was not working at the time of the traffic stop,” said Bennett.
There was no damage to the ambulance and, in fact, the company has already picked it up, Bennett said.
Bennett said more charges could be forthcoming as the ambulance was taken from a location in Ware County.
“They will be dealing with Ware County on that issue,” Bennett said.
