Jerry Herman Carter
FOLKSTON — Jerry Herman Carter, 74, of Nahunta, passed away Friday (Jan. 25, 2019) at his residence following a lengthy illness.
He was bon Nov. 13, 1944 in Folkston, to the late Allen Eugene Carter and Janie Elizabeth Crews Carter. He was employed as a foreman with Harvin Carter Industries in Folkston.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jerri Carter, a brother, James Carter, and a step-son, Tony Sanders.
He is survived by his wife, Vivian Todd Sanders; a son, Jayson Carter; a brother, Robert Carter; three sisters, Carolyn Drury, Vivian Crews and Betty Kay Johnson; his step-children, Todd Sanders, Pam (Mitchell) Clements, Jimmy (Angie) Sanders and Beth (Bill) Rozier; and 12 grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Wednesday at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Sand Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. Ray McMillan officiating.
Burial will be in Racepond Cemetery at Sand Hill Baptist Church.

FOLKSTON — Joyce Yevonne Canaday, 71, of Folkston, passed away at her residence Thursday (Jan. 24, 2019).
She was born Feb. 27, 1947 to the late Yulee Canaday and Leila Dixon Canaday Davis.
She is survived by a brother, Ray Canaday (wife, Judy); a sister, Cathy Burdette (husband, Floyd); two children, Brian Higginbotham and Jennifer Teller; and a number of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
The funeral will be held Sunday at Shepard-Roberson Funeral Home at 3 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home beginning at 1 p.m.
Elder Randy Strickland, Elder Floyd Edendfield and Pastor Don Harris officiating. Burial will follow in Conner Green Cemetery.

Robert Leonard Gordon
Robert Leonard Gordon, 63, formerly of Waycross, passed away Friday (Jan. 25, 2019) after a brief illness.
He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Brenda Brown Gordon; and sons, Ardre Gordon, Robert Michael Gordon (Quiana); one grandson, Christopher Gordon; his father, Alvin Gordon Jr. (Betty); one sister, Kathleen Regulus (Ronald); and one brother, Alvin R. Gordon; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, family and friends.
The family will receive friends at their home, 633 Ware St., Waycross beginning Wednesday.
The funeral will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at New Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Waycross.

Adrian Luke Arnold
Adrian Luke Arnold, 13, died Friday (Jan. 25, 2019) at his residence in Waycross following an extended illness.
He was born in Savannah but had resided in Waycross all of his life. He was in the fifth grade at Wacona Elementary School and attended Swamp Road Baptist Church. He was also active in the Special Olympic Triathlons such as Miles for Smiles.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John Arnold.
He is survived by his mother, Samantha Tatum (fiancé, Chris Cox), of Waycross; his father, Luke Arnold (Heather), of Waycross; five siblings, Spencer Arnold, Dallas Arnold, Mahaley Arnold, Bridgette Cox and Bailey Cox, all of Waycross; his grandparents, Jerry and Debra Tatum, Patsy Kinnon (late, Richard), Kaye and Curtis Pittman, all of Waycross; and his great-grandparents, Kenneth and Marion Music, George Leonard Tatum Sr. and Mildred Griffin, all of Waycross.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Swamp Road Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Swamp Road Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends this evening at Music Funeral Home from 6 until 8 o’clock.

Robert “Larry” Morgan, 72, died Sunday evening (Jan. 27, 2019) at Memorial Hospital in Jacksonville, Fla., following an extended illness.

Robert ‘Bobby’ James
A celebration of life service for Robert “Bobby” James, 59, will be held Tuesday at 5 p.m. at Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 701 Arnold McKinney Drive, with the church pastor, the Rev. Fer-Rell M. Malone Sr., offering words of comfort.
“Bobby,” as he was affectionately known, was born April 23, 1959 in Waycross to the late Robert James and Essie Jackson Dixon. He received his formal education from the Waycross Public School System and graduated from Waycross High School in 1978.
He was a hard worker and congenial character who won a place in the hearts of those privileged to have known him.
He departed this life on Jan. 16, 2019 after an illness.
Those left to cherish his memory include an aunt, Remelle Jackson, of Albany; a cousin, that was raised with him, Christola Borden Grace, of Sacramento, Calif.; god-sister, Chellsi Iloka, of Waycross; several other relatives; a special friend, Doris Langley, of Waycross; and friends.

Evangelist Christine Burgess Smith, 67, the wife of the late Rev. Thomas Smith Jr., died Sunday morning (Jan. 27, 2019) at her residence after an illness.

Nancy Lou Wonnie Thomas Barnes
A memorial service for Nancy Lou Wonnie Thomas Barnes, who died Dec. 13, 2018, will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Mt. Green Church of God of Prophecy in Millwood.
She died at the hospital in Albany.
Born in Coffee County Feb. 6, 1941, she was the daughter of Early and Lila Thomas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth Barnes, a son, Jeffery Barnes, a daughter-in-law, Bonnie Barnes, two brothers, D.C. Thomas and Jimmy Ray Thomas, two sisters-in-law, Juanita Thomas and Gladys Thomas, one brother-in-law, Cecil Conner.
She is survived by a son, Terry Barnes (wife, Linda), a daughter-in-law, Judy Barnes, nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, two sisters, Lollie Mae Conner and Mary Jo Worth (husband, Junior), one sister-in-law, Ruth Thomas, several nieces and nephews.

A funeral for John Jacob “Johnny” Gibbs Sr. was held Friday afternoon at Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. D.L. Mercer officiating.
Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jacob Gibbs, Matt Wingo, Ian Field, Carter Wingo, Frank Wingo, Mason Gibbs, Zach Porter, Chris Hinson, Jesse Crews and Will Hendrix.
Honorary pallbearers were Kelly King, Will Trogdon, Dwayne Scurry, Tony Gibbs and David Hendrix.
Miles-Odum Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

A funeral for Loyce Wainwright Warden took place Saturday morning at Bible Heritage Church with the Rev. Bill McCullar and the ev. Lloyd McCullar officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers were Roy Anderson, Monroe Bennett, Ricky Crowle, Carl Anderson and Tim Wainwright.
Honorary pallbearers were the Joymakers of Bible Heritage Church.
