HOMERVILLE — A Homerville man died as a result of a head-on collision that occurred on U.S. 84 Sunday night, said a GSP spokesperson.
Joseph Troupe, 66, of Homerville, was pronounced dead Monday. He was transported to the Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross Sunday night after suffering abdominal and pelvic injuries in an accident that occurred two miles east of Homerville, said Amanda Dixon, GSP Waycross Post secretary.
A passenger in the vehicle driven by Troupe, Elijah Troupe, 8, of Homerville, was also transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross, Dixon said.
The driver of the other vehicle involved in the accident, Rosemary McGhee, 50, of Homerville, was life-flighted to a hospital in Gainesville, Fla., Dixon said.
The Troupe Ford pickup truck was traveling west on U.S. 84 near Mile Marker 17 when it tried to pass another vehicle, Dixon said. It collided head-on with McGhee’s Mercury Grand Marquis that was traveling east.
McGhee’s car was propelled backward 75 feet, rotating counterclockwise and coming to rest in the eastbound lane facing north, Dixon said.
The Troupe vehicle continued for 72 feet after the impact, rotating and came to rest in the eastbound lane facing west, Dixon said.
The accident was investigated by GSP Senior Trooper Greg Stone
