Waycross police were dispatched to the intersection of the South Georgia Parkway and Dewitt Street at 12:30 this morning to investigate a lover’s quarrel that involved gunfire, said Waycross Police Capt. Tommy Cox.
Officers met with the victim who had been fired on by his live-in girlfriend, but the shot missed its target, striking the car that he was driving, said Cox.
Police were able to track the woman down about 5:30 this morning and took her into custody, said Cox.
Lashirah Barner, 38, has been jailed on charges of aggravated assault and discharging a firearm on a public highway, said Cox.
“More charges may be forthcoming as the investigation unfolds,” said Cox. “It appears the two got into an argument at a residence in the 1300 block of Roosevelt Street. When the victim left, he was pursued by Barner who drove alongside him at Dewitt Street and fired the shot. He immediately made a U-turn and drove to the police station as quickly as he could.”
