A GoFundMe account has been set up to raise money for W.J. Hamilton, of Waycross, who has been ill for some time, and the family is requesting donations from friends and the public at-large.
Hamilton was transferred to a hospital in Savannah suffering Clostridium difficile and pneumonia to undergo respiratory therapy and physical therapy.
Allen Hamilton, his son, said that after being ventilated for a few days, his father began to show improvement and was taken off the ventilator.
“Unfortunately, as Hurricane Matthew’s eye wall hit Savannah, he was being ventilated again and was moved to NICU,” Allen Hamilton said. “He is in critical condition and the infection has now entered his bloodstream and the pneumonia is extremely bad in both lungs.”
W.J. Hamilton’s wife, Teresa, is remaining by his side at the hospital and she slept on the ICU floor during the hurricane, the family member said.
“She is very tired and could really use our help. She has exhausted all of her funds just trying to be there for him,” Allen Hamilton said.
All funds from the GoFundMe account will go directly to W.J. and Teresa Hamilton. Any amount will help, the family said.
