Four young men from Alma were injured in a single-vehicle traffic accident Thursday night on State Street, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
A 2001 Ford Mustang driven by Nathan Michael Williams, 18, of Alma, was traveling south on State Street Thursday at 10:08 p.m. when it drifted into the adjoining southbound lane and nearly hit another vehicle, Royal said.
Williams told the investigating officer, Deputy Travis Stauffer, that he then overcorrected his steering, snatching the steering wheel, and that this caused his car to skid off the roadway and to crash through a perimeter fence and into the wall of the Waycross Heating and Air building, which is on the west side of State Street.
Williams complained of injury and was transported by Ware County EMS to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment, the sheriff said.
A passenger, Shaun Morgan, 17, of Alma, had visible injuries, Royal said, and was transported for treatment as well, as were passengers Kevin Merritt, 17, of Alma, and Demetrius Stile, 18, of Alma, both of whom complained of injury.
All of the injured were carried by ambulance to the Mayo ER. There was no report on their medical conditions available this morning.
Williams was cited for failure to maintain a lane, Royal said.
