DIXIE UNION — Five people were injured Thursday, two of them seriously, when a driver made a left turn into the path of oncoming traffic on U.S. 1 in front of Papa’s Deli, said Ware County Sheriff’s Capt. Carl James.
Thelma Guyton Reynolds, 62, of Alma, was taken by helicopter to UF Health in Jacksonville, Fla., for treatment of her injuries, said James.
Moseley Reynolds, 67, of Alma, was taken by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Savannah for treatment of his injuries, said James.
Hope Guyton, 3, of Alma, and Tlarence Guyton, 10, of Alma, both were taken by Ware County Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of their injuries, said James.
Samuel Adam Hendrick Jr., 33, of Waycross, complained of pain in his wrist but refused transport to the hospital, said James.
Hendrick, driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, was northbound on U.S. 1 when he made a left turn into the driveway at Papa’s Deli. James said he stopped and paused to wait for two vehicles to clear, but he did not see the third vehicle, a 1995 Mercury driven by Thelma Reynolds, approaching.
As Hendrick turned left, his vehicle was hit by the Reynolds car, causing extensive damage to both vehicles, said James.
Deputy Matthew Johnson investigated the 7:23 a.m. accident.
