Three teenagers were injured Saturday when a truck that was drag racing crashed into a deep ditch and overturned, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
The driver, Alexis Grace Fellows, 17, of Blue Lake Circle, Blackshear, and her two passengers, Kaci Crace, 14, of Spurgeon Street, Waycross, and Chloe Thompson, 15, of Spurgeon Street, were all taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of various injuries they suffered in the 3:50 p.m. accident, said Royal.
Fellows was charged with “laying drag” and operating a vehicle out of her permitted use, said Royal.
Driving a 2004 Nissan Frontier, Fellows was eastbound on Fred Voigt Road near Albany Avenue drag racing when she lost control of the vehicle. Royal said the truck fell into a 15-foot ravine and overturned onto the driver’s side.
Investigators found evidence it had been swerving from side to side prior to the crash, and the driver admitted she was swerving on purpose, the sheriff said.
Deputy Matthew Johnson investigated the accident.
