A driver whose car crashed on Wadley Road Sunday night was distracted by conversation with two passengers in the vehicle just prior to the car running off the road, overturning and tearing down power lines, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
The driver, Brandi Leann Hargiss, 22, of Wadley Road, was trapped in the vehicle for more than an hour and was extricated by Ware County Fire Department personnel using the “Jaws-of-Life” hydraulic tool.
Royal said two passengers in the vehicle were able to crawl out. Benjamin Morgan, 26, of Nahunta, and Kenya White, 21, of Wadley Road, both escaped with only minor cuts and scrapes, Royal said.
Hargiss, driving a 2003 Nissan Morano, was eastbound on Wadley Road when the car ran off the road. Royal said the car hit a ditch and overturned. The car skidded on its roof for a ways before coming to a final stop.
“Passengers said the driver was distracted by them talking when she ran off the roadway,” said Royal. “Power lines in the area were damaged and Satilla Electric Membership Co-op employees responded to take care of the situation.”
Power was out in the area for a period because of the crash.
