A Waycross police officer on patrol on the South Georgia Parkway at Lee Avenue made a traffic stop on a 2007 Toyota for having improper vehicle equipment, then found drugs and a large quantity of counterfeit money in the vehicle, said Waycross Police Capt. Tommy Cox.
A passenger in the car, Fred Paqua, 56, of Orange City, Fla., was arrested and charged with possession of counterfeit money, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug-related objects, giving a false name and was determined to be a fugitive from justice in Orange City on counterfeiting charges, said Cox.
The driver, a man, ran on foot and avoided capture, he said.
Paqua was transported to the Ware County jail where he was booked on the charges.
After the officer stopped the vehicle, the driver, who has not been identified, jumped out and ran on foot. Police tried to catch up to him but he was able to evade them, said Cox.
Cox said the investigation is ongoing and police are searching for the man who got away.
