A Blackshear man and a Waycross woman were injured early Sunday in a head-on collision on Central Avenue just across the Brantley County line, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Brenda Inman, 56, of Waycross, was flown to UF Health Jacksonville, Fla., for treatment of her injuries, said Amanda Dixon, GSP Waycross post secretary.
Justin Reeves, 25, of Blackshear, was taken by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross following the 6:25 a.m. accident, said Dixon.
Witnesses reported the collision occurred on “Dr. Hall’s Curve.”
Reeves, driving a Ford Taurus, was eastbound on Central Avenue, rounding the right-hand curve. Dixon said Inman, driving a Chevrolet pickup truck, was headed west on Central Avenue, rounding the same curve to the left. Reeves crossed the centerline into the westbound lane, she said.
Dixon said Inman tried to stop and her truck skidded for 37.6 feet before being struck in the front with the front of the Reeves car, which rotated counterclockwise for 12 feet, coming to final rest across Central Avenue.
The Inman truck was propelled backward for 16.5 feet, struck a guardrail on the north side of the road and came to rest partially on the guardrail and partially on Central Avenue.
Cpl. Josh Taylor is in charge of the investigation, which has not been completed.
