Lowell E. Shuman Sr.
Lowell E. Shuman Sr., 76, died Saturday (Aug. 6, 2016) at Langdale Hospice House in Valdosta after a brief illness.
He was born in Screven to the late Elton Y. Shuman and Mollie Gertrude Bennett Shuman, but moved to Waycross at an early age. He graduated from Waycross High School in 1959.
He was formerly employed as an electrician for Rayonier, maintenance supervisor for Scott Housing and Carter South, and a plumber for Hodges Plumbing Company. He also had a passion for TV and appliance repair.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Pal Sunday School Class and Masonic Lodge No. 305.
An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he was a longtime member of Satilla Hunting Club. He was also a member of Little Pines, Camp 4 and Petty Crossing Hunting Clubs and Pierce County Fox Hunters. His passion for the outdoors led him to become an active member of the Georgia Hunting and Fishing Federation for which he served on the state board of directors. He also contributed regularly to his article in the Sportsman Magazine called “Swamp Talk.”
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sandra Denison Shuman, of Waycross; three children, Gina Shuman, of Valdosta, Sherri Willis (Scott), of Naylor, and Les Shuman (Dana), of Hortense; six grandchildren, Easton Willis, Eli Willis, Macy Shuman, Colby Shuman, Timothy Martino and Hunter Knox; two sisters, Lavon Boatright (late James), of Lilburn, and Linda Edwards (Talmadge), of Waycross; one brother, Larry W. Shuman (Sue), of Jesup; mother-in-law, Elise Denison, of Screven; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Central Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6 until 8 o’clock this evening at Music Funeral Home.
The Masonic Lodge No. 305 and Pal Sunday School Class is asked to meet at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday at the church to serve as honorary pallbearers.

Sylvia Gadson Douglas, 101, died Sunday evening (Aug. 7, 2016) at her residence, 909 Naomi St., after an illness.
Friends are being received at her residence.

BLACKSHEAR — Katherine M. Hall, 88, of Blackshear, passed away Sunday afternoon (Aug. 7, 2016) at the Pierce County Nursing Home.

M.C. Coker
A funeral for M.C. Coker took place Sunday afternoon at Emmanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Mike Stone officiating.
Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery with military rites performed by the United States Army.
Serving as active pallbearers were Chris Jorishie, Michael Zachry, Shawn Jordan, Timmy Baxley, Chris Mixon and Michael Rudisail.
Serving as honorary pallbearers were the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class.
Arrangements were with Music Funeral Home.

John Carter Gillis
A memorial service for John Carter Gillis Sr. took place Saturday morning at Newbern Baptist Church with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating.
