Two people were arrested Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle reported stolen in the city was stopped by Ware County deputies on ABC Avenue, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
The two suspects jumped out of the vehicle and ran into a house in the 1900 block of ABC, and then were found in possession of meth and marijuana, Royal said.
Royal said the owner of the house gave lawmen permission to enter and search for the men. Treymon Shaw, 21, of the 300 block of West Oneida Street, was taken into custody and charged with theft by receiving stolen property and possession of methamphetamine, said Royal.
Ethan Drury, 17, of Lester Loop, Waycross, was also arrested. Royal said he was only charged with possession of marijuana. The two men were taken to the Ware County jail.
Ware County deputies were alerted about the theft of the maroon 2004 GMC Yukon in the 1600 block of Plant Avenue, and shortly thereafter — a few minutes past 3 p.m. — the deputies spotted the vehicle with at least two occupants inside, Royal said. The license plate confirmed it was the one reported stolen, the sheriff said.
When deputies approached the sport utility vehicle, Drury and Shaw jumped out and entered the house.
Once they were properly restrained, deputies searched the men and found clear plastic bags of methamphetamine on one and marijuana on the other, Royal said.
Both were being held in the Ware County jail this morning.
