WAYNESVILLE — A Waynesville woman was injured Thursday when her vehicle spun out of control on the South Georgia Parkway just west of here and overturned into a ditch, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Debra Deems, 61, was taken by Brantley County ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of unspecified injuries she suffered in the 3:25 p.m. accident, said Amanda Dixon, GSP Waycross post secretary.
Driving a Chrysler PT cruiser, Deems was eastbound on the South Georgia Parkway, driving in the inside lane. Dixon said the SUV entered the median for 305 feet, rotating clockwise after the driver attempted to steer to the right. The driver then steered left, causing the vehicle to spin counterclockwise for 100 feet before re-entering the median.
Dixon said the vehicle continued spinning and crossed the median and both westbound lanes for 140 feet before overturning onto the passenger side.
A witness to the accident said fire rescue personnel used extrication tools to free the woman from the vehicle.
Trooper Merritt Meeks was in charge of the accident investigation.
