A telephone scammer phishing in the 912 area code talked to a Waycross man this week … but the con man’s “mark” was too smart to fall for his pitch.
“He actually told me he represented the Internal Revenue (Service),” the man said. “Then he told me I had won $5 million … and an extravagant new automobile.”
The caller told the Waycrossan he needed to send $1,700 (delivery fee), to which the man replied, “so that’s all I need to do, eh?”
The caller then asked, “You do have it, don’t you?” And the Waycrossan responded: “Oh, yes, I certainly have it … and you’re not going to get it!”
The citizen warns others, “Do not fall for tricks by people who want to steal your money.”
