A Ware County High School teacher has been relieved of her duties following an arrest on felony sexual assault charges, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
Tera Ashley Horne, 32, of Patterson, was taken into custody Saturday morning. Royal said she turned herself in at the Ware County jail after a warrant was issued for her arrest. She is officially charged with one count of sexual assault by a person with supervisory or disciplinary authority, a felony, Royal said, and posted bond this morning.
The male victim is 18 years old and a student at Ware County High School. The relationship took place between Oct. 1 and Thursday, the sheriff said.
“Horne reportedly resigned her position from the Ware County School System on Thursday,” Royal said. “The Ware County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of the allegations several days ago and began a thorough investigation into the matter. The apparent misconduct first surfaced after a witness came forward and reported their suspicions to law enforcement. Substantial evidence was gathered and collected which supported the appropriate charges in this case.”
“Since my office learned of the incident, Ware County School officials have been extremely helpful during this investigation,” Royal said.
On Friday afternoon Ware County detectives appeared before Ware County Superior Court Judge Mike Devane. All warrant applications applied for were granted which included a felony arrest warrant for the offense of sexual assault by a person with disciplinary authority.
The sheriff’s office briefed District Attorney George Barnhill of the progress of the investigation on Friday afternoon.
Horne turned herself over to a Ware County detective at the Ware County Jail Saturday. She was booked into the Ware County Jail.
Horne appeared before a Ware County magistrate for a first appearance hearing this morning and posted bond. Her bond was set at $25,000 with strict bond conditions.
