Two Waycross men were seriously injured Saturday when they were ejected from a pickup truck as it overturned on Devandrene Avenue, said Ware County Sheriff Randy Royal.
Joshua Curtis Music, 22, of Devandrene Avenue, and his passenger, Michael Grant Jr., 20, of Ammons Road, Waycross, were both thrown out of the truck. Royal said both were taken by Ware County Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of various injuries including massive road rash, lacerations on their arms and faces. Music, Royal said, was in and out of consciousness and could not communicate at all with rescue officials. Both were in guarded condition, Royal said.
Driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, Music was eastbound on Devandrene Avenue when the truck went off the roadway in a curve. The truck then entered a ditch and struck a culvert. Royal said the truck then went airborne for 104 feet, landing nose down, then vaulting and overturning end-over-end, said the sheriff.
Just before officers arrived at the scene, the truck burst into flames and was totally involved in fire when firefighters from the Ware County Fire Department arrived to extinguish the blaze, Royal said.
Cpl. Ethan Murray investigated the accident.
