Two people were injured Sunday when a driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic at the intersection of McDonald Street and Carswell Avenue, causing a collision, said Waycross Police Capt. Tommy Cox.
Shirley Grantham, 81, of Waycross, and Casey Nortwick, 18, of Valdosta, were taken by Ware County Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of unspecified injuries, said Cox.
William Allen, 19, of Valdosta, driving a 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser, was stopped at the stop sign on McDonald Street. Cox said he then drove into the path of a 2004 Mercury driven by Earl David Grantham, 82, of Waycross, as it was eastbound on Carswell Avenue. The Grantham car struck the passenger side of the Allen vehicle.
Cox said Allen is charged with failure to yield the right-of-way.
The two injured parties were passengers in the two vehicles, Cox said.
Officer Matthew Chisholm investigated the 7:30 p.m. accident.
