BLACKSHEAR — Two people were injured Saturday when their car overturned after it was struck by an unidentified vehicle on U.S. Highway 84 in Pierce County.
The driver of the hit-and-run vehicle fled the scene, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Frank Robert Jones Elder, 26, and Jerri Lynn Elder, 34, of Blackshear, were both taken by a Pierce County Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of injuries, his a complaint of shoulder pain and hers, head injuries and elbow pain, said Donna Dismuke, GSP Waycross post secretary.
Driving a 2003 Subaru Legacy, Frank Elder was headed west in the outside lane of U.S. Highway 84. Dismuke said a vehicle in the inside lane entered the outside lane and struck the Elder car, then sped away without stopping. Elder’s vehicle began to spin clockwise for 97 feet before overturning numerous times in a ditch and coming to rest on its roof, Dismuke said.
Troopers are looking for a light colored car, possibly a Lincoln, with a Florida tag bearing a Florida State University logo.Trooper Sherman McClain investigated the 9:06 p.m. accident.
