Two passengers were injured Thursday in a rear-end collision on the Brunswick Highway just west of the intersection with City Boulevard, said Waycross Police Capt. Tommy Cox.
Precious Simon, 13, and Shajuana Simon, 38, both of Brunswick, were taken to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of their injuries, said Cox.
They were passengers in a 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Alonzo Brown, 16, of Brunswick, said Cox. Neither Brown nor the other driver, Kaitlyn Griffin, 19, of Waycross, was injured in the crash.
Cox said Griffin and Brown were both headed west on the Brunswick Highway and had just passed the intersection with City Boulevard when an unidentified vehicle in front of Brown slowed to make a left turn into the parking lot of the American Eye Clinic. Griffin’s vehicle, a 2005 Chrysler 300, was unable to stop and slammed into the rear of the Brown vehicle causing extensive damage to both vehicles, Cox said.
Griffin was charged with following too closely behind another vehicle, Cox said.
Officer Donna Waters investigated the 1:38 p.m. accident.
