A one-vehicle accident Friday on Anita Street near Francis Street injured two people, the driver and a passenger, both of whom were taken by Ware County Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Jorge Ortiz, 31, of Waycross, and his passenger, Legmir Aguilera, 36, of Waycross, both were injured in the 6:50 p.m. crash, said Amanda Dixon, GSP Waycross post secretary.
Driving a Ford Ranger, Ortiz was headed south on Anita Street when the truck left the roadway onto the left shoulder for 304 feet and hit a mailbox at 211 Anita St. Dixon said that after impact, the driver over-corrected and rotated counterclockwise across Anita Street for 46 feet. The truck then entered the east ditch for 85 feet spinning clockwise and struck a road sign with the front driver’s side.
Dixon said the truck then began to spin clockwise again for 36 feet and overturned onto the driver’s side, striking a large tree with the roof of the truck. The vehicle came to rest upright facing west.
Ortiz was charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, failure to maintain a lane and violation of the Open Container Law, said Dixon.
Trooper Myles Cooper was in charge of the accident investigation.
