ALMA — Three people were injured Wednesday when a driver made a left turn off Georgia 32 at Industrial Boulevard and turned into the path of a tractor trailer, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Both drivers, Donna Smith, 63, of Douglas, and Dewayne Davis, 45, of Nicholls, and a passenger in the Smith car, Chelsie Jenkins, 26, of Waycross, were taken by Bacon County Emergency Medical Service ambulance to Bacon County Hospital for treatment of injuries they sustained in the 8:16 a.m. crash, said Amanda Dixon, GSP Waycross post secretary.
Driving a Buick LeSabre, Smith was eastbound on Georgia 32 and attempting to make a left turn at Industrial Boulevard. Dixon said Smith turned in front of a Freightliner driven by Davis, who was westbound on Georgia 32.
Davis’s rig struck the front of the Smith car in the westbound outside lane, she said. Smith’s car then spun clockwise and was pushed 34 feet, coming to rest in the inside eastbound lane, Dixon said.
The semi continued for 53 feet and landed in a ditch, Dixon said.
Trooper Merritt Meeks investigated the accident.
