BLACKSHEAR — A 17-year-old driver was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol after she crashed a sport utility vehicle Saturday on Hacklebarney Road at its intersection with Yellowbluff Road, injuring herself in the process, said the Georgia State Patrol.
Brandi Leann Arnold, 17, of Nicholls, was taken by Pierce County ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of her injuries, said Donna Dismuke, GSP Waycross post secretary.
Her passengers, Brantley Arnold, 3, of Nicholls, and James F. Sills, 63, of Waycross, both escaped without injury, said Dismuke.
Driving a 1991 Ford Explorer, Arnold was headed south on Hacklebarney Road when she made a turn onto Yellowbluff Road, driving too fast to successfully make the turn, said Dismuke. The SUV rotated clockwise and crossed the centerline before striking a tree about 40 feet west of Hacklebarney Road, said Dismuke.
Arnold was also charged with endangering a child, driving under the influence by a person under 21, driving without a license and failure to maintain a lane, said Dismuke.
Trooper Merritt Meeks investigated the accident.
