A man was injured when he pulled his car into the path of a tractor trailer on U.S. 82 at Lovett Road Friday afternoon, a Georgia State Patrol spokesman said.
James Mixon, 62, of Waycross, was transported by a Ware County EMS ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross for treatment of an injury as a result of the 3:16 p.m. accident, said GSP Brunswick Post Secretary Steve Drury.
Mixon was traveling north in a 2003 Buick on Lovett Road, stopped at the intersection at U.S. 82 and then pulled slowly across the intersection into the path of a 1999 Volvo tractor trailer traveling east on U.S., 82, Drury said. The truck struck the left front of the Mixon car.
The Buick rotated clockwise for 57 feet and came to rest on the highway’s shoulder, Drury said. The truck continued for 165 feet and came to a controlled rest in the median.
Mixon was charged with failure to yield right of way after stopping at a stop sign, Drury said.
The accident was investigated by Sgt. 1st Class Terry Thrift.
