Beginning with the successful February 2015 production of “Purlie Victorious,” the group was formed to provide socially significant theater experiences. The motto is “Educate, Elevate, Inspire,” and the September production of “The Diary of Anne Frank” accomplished just that.
“Purlie Victorious” will be the group’s signature production and will be performed again in February 2016. In addition, the group is beginning to perform for school and civic groups.
With its newly obtained non-profit 501(C)3 status the group is hoping to obtain grants to broaden its scope.
Future plans include a locally written production highlighting and contrasting the experiences of both soldiers and slaves during the Civil War. The group is also interested in bringing other types of entertainment to the community and is open to new works by local playwrights.
The current board of directors is chaired by Jimmie Burke and includes Barbara Griffin, Lamar Deal, Judy Bryan, Dr. Lionel Bryan, Blake Kildow and Mary Lewis.
