Marsha Gail O’Berry
Marsha Gail O’Berry, 61, died Friday night (Oct. 16, 2015) at St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside in Jacksonville, Fla. after an extended illness.
She was a native of Alma who lived most of her life in Waycross. In 2011, she retired from Satilla Regional Medical Center as a LPN.
She was a member of Swamp Road Baptist Church.
She is the daughter of the late B.B. Tanner.
Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Junior O’Berry, of Waycross; one daughter, Stacey Marie O’Berry, of Waycross; her mother, Betty Jean Waters Tanner, of Waycross; one brother, David Tanner, of Waycross; two sisters, Wanda Joiner, of Waycross, and Sandra Miles, of Brantley County; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral was to be held at 11 a.m. today at Swamp Road Baptist Church. Burial was to follow in the church cemetery.

Thelma H. Spencer
A celebration of life service for Thelma Hargrove Spencer, 79, will be held Saturday (Oct. 24, 2015) at 11 a.m. at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 864 Oak St., with the church pastor, the Rev. Paul Bailey, bringing words of comfort.
She was a native of Waycross where she received her formal education from the public school system and was a member of the Center High School class of 1956.
Her parents were the late James A. Ross and Retha Ray Ross.
She was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church and Order of The Eastern Star Chapter No. 183.
Survivors include her children, Juanita Hargrove, Charles Hargrove, Steve Spencer, Lenore Harris (Rev. Jackie), goddaughter, Debra Gadson; 18 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Ross (Margaret); nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
Friends are being received at the home of her granddaughter, Petres Calhoun 607 Folks St. Interment will be in Hazzard Hill Cemetery. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Fluker Funeral Home.

Roosevelt Johnson
Roosevelt “Ted” Johnson, 83, passed away Friday night (Oct. 16, 2015) at the Hospice House Satilla following an extended illness.
A native of Baxley, he served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and graduated from Rollins College in Orlando, Fla. He was formerly employed as CEO of Concerted Services and an employee of Lockheed before becoming owner and operator of Gold Key Auto in 1996.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin and Mamie Boyd Johnson, and two brothers, Gene Johnson and D.A. Johnson.
Survivors include his former wife of 36 years, Barbara Ewing Johnson, of Waycross; one son, Craig Johnson (Jamie), of Waycross; a grandchild, Lauren Johnson; two nephews, Tim Johnson (Jamie), of Jacksonville, Fla., and Danny Johnson, of Baxley; a niece, Stacy Johnson Sharpe (Larry), of Waycross; a great niece, Kim Ingalls; and a sister-in-law, Delores Johnson, of Blackshear.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Music Funeral Home Chapel.

Vera Leggett Burson
Vera Leggett Burson was called to her heavenly home Thursday (Oct. 15, 2015).
She was born in Waycross on July 25, 1953 to the late Katherine Hill Leggett and William Leggett.
She was a faithful member of Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, Waycross.
She leaves to mourn and cherish her loving memory her son, Algernon J. Leggett, of Waycross; her daughter, Felecia M. Leggett, of Jacksonville, Fla.; two brothers, Anthony J. Leggett, of Waycross, and Charles (Phyllis) Leggett, of Columbus; one sister, Helen (Sand) Harris, of Rochester, N.Y.; one granddaughter, Michelle K. Cobb, and grandson, Justin Leggett; four nieces, Latasha Leggett, Sherri Leggett (Royce) Cleary, Crystal (Dedric) Wright and Tiona White; and one nephew, Anthony Leggett Jr.
The funeral will be held on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Friendship Baptist Church. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Friday at the funeral home from 6 until 7 p.m.

Charles H. Beverly
A funeral service for Charles H. “Charlie” Beverly took place Saturday morning at Sweat Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. Freddie Smith and the Rev. Marien Mullis officiating.
Burial was in Moore Cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers were the grandsons Blake Beverly, Corey Beverly, Terence Hiott, Brent Beverly, Joseph Boyles and Eric Crawford.
Honorary pallbearers were Visiting Angels and Hospice House.
Arrangements were with Music Funeral Home.

Walter Lucious Dixon
BLACKSHEAR — A funeral for Walter Lucious Dixon, 84, was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church.
Officiating was Dr. Bill Young, Don Saxon, Jake Dixon and Bradi Dixon.
Interment was in the Enon Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Dan Dixon Jr., W.D. Strickland, Ed Saxon, Gary Saxon, Jeff Saxon and Melvin Crosby.
Honorary pallbearers were directors and officers of PrimeSouth Bank.
Pearson-Dial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
