Pastor Eugene Crews
Pastor Eugene Ottis Crews, 73, of Harriett’s Bluff, Woodbine, passed away peacefully Monday (Oct. 12, 2015) at Hospice of Golden Isles in Brunswick.
Born in Telmore Oct. 29, 1941, he was the son of the late A.J. Crews and Dora Courson Crews.
Throughout his life, he went from being a picker, grinner and sinner, opening for Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Lynrd Skynyrd, to picker, grinner and winner as a Christian singer in Gene Crews and the Believers and the Tributes.
When older, he and his wife attended Calvary Bible Institute where he graduated with a bachelor degree in Biblical studies. He pastored Harvest Christian Fellowship, traveled as a missionary to Honduras, and opened a food bank that fed hundreds of people. He loved music and offered to teach others any instrument they desired to play.
He worked at United Insurance Company of America for 24 years as an insurance agent. To sum up the kind of man Eugene Crews was is best exemplified by how he was with his customers. He would go out of his way to buy a loaf of bread or a jug of milk if he found out his customer needed it.

Irene Jeanette Crews; his sons, Kenneth Crews, Jeffrey Crews, Schonathan Crews (Amanda) and Andy Green; his daughter, Shayé Crews’ his step-daughter, Jeanette Williamson (Chris); his grandsons, Christopher Rawl, Brayden Crews and Grayson Crews; and his granddaughters, Amanda Rawl, Hillary Carver and Megan Rawl.
He was predeceased in death by his daughter, Zena Jane Crews-Kurfees, his mother-in-law, Julia Mitchell Rogers, and his brothers, Ralph Crews, Billy Crews and Ronald Crews.
