JoAnn M. Hartley
JoAnn Mixon Hartley, 65, of Blackshear, died Thursday morning (Sept. 29, 2016) at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House following an extended illness.
Born Jan. 23, 1951 in Axon, she was a daughter of the late Martin and Martha Taft Mixon. She was raised in Atkinson County but lived many years in Waycross and Nicholls before moving to Blackshear in the early 2000’s. She was a faithful housewife and mother and was of the Pentecostal faith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “J.H.” Hartley, a daughter, Diane Hartley, three grandchildren, Martha “M.J.” Rowland, David Anthony Rowland and Mason A. West, and her brother, Buddy Mercer.
Survivors include two daughters, Martha Rowland (husband, Crystal), of Waycross, and Samantha West (husband, Carl), of Blackshear; her son, James “Buddy” Hartley (wife, Karen), of Waycross; five grandchildren, James W. Rowland, of Waycross, Laura Crase (husband, Robert), of Blackshear, Joseph Rowland (wife, Frances), of Blackshear, Jim West (wife, Stacia), of Blackshear, and Bob Hartley, of Waycross; six great-grandchildren, Marlena Womack (husband, Brian), of Patterson, Linda Crase, Hannah West, Kaci Crase, Jaylyn West and Wesley West, all of Blackshear; one great-great-grandson, Cameron A. Womack, of Patterson; her sister, Lera Dean, of Douglas; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral will take place Monday at 1 p.m. at Liberty Christian Church, 2341 Illinois Ave., Waycross.
Burial will follow in the Lone Hill Cemetery in West Green.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Gail Denise Cooper, 60, died Friday (Sept. 30, 2016) at her residence following an extended illness.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced later by Music Funeral Home.
A funeral for Bradley Jordan was held Friday afternoon at Music Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jerry Brown officiating.
Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Teke Dixon, Greg Delk, Thomas Little, Brad Jordan III, Chad Starling, Philip Jordan, Adam Howell and Hunter Waters.
Music Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
