Children’s author Michelle Nelson-Schmidt visited Center Elementary’s kindergarten through fifth grade students and caused quite a buzz of excitement.
The talented author and illustrator read the book Dog and Mouse, a wonderful read-aloud rhyming tale about finding and being a friend — whoever you are, wherever you are.
Students were a captive audience as the self-taught author read other books that she has written and shared her spectacular drawings, all the while inspiring students to dream big and have the vision that they can be anything they want to be.
There was a question/answer session at the end of the presentation and a fourth grade student, asked: “Who inspired you?” Nelson-Schmidt answered: “My parents always encouraged me that I could be anything I wanted to be.”
Her popular books include Dogs, Dogs! Cats, Cats!, Bob is a Unicorn and Jonathon James and the Whatif Monster.
