Catherine B. Carter
Catherine Boyette Carter, 46, died Friday night (May 13, 2016) at Roosevelt Warm Springs Rehab and Specialty Hospital in Warm Springs, Ga., following an extended illness.
She was a native and life-long resident of Ware County. She was preceded in death by her father, Billy Boyette, her sister, Beth Boyette, and her step-father, Thomas Sweat.
She was educated in the Waycross City School System, was a member of Whitehall Community Church and attended the ladies luncheons of the church.
Survivors include her boyfriend of 16 years, Calvin Burgess, of Waycross; her mother, Rilla Patricia Sweat, of Waycross; cousins, Dana Welch (husband, Leslie), of Blackshear, and Dennis Hiott Jr. (wife, Samantha), of Waycross; her step-mother, Annette McKinnon, of Waycross; three step-brothers, Sylvester Nelson, of Tennessee, Bill Nelson and Bret Nelson (Elaine), both of Waycross; two step-sisters, Rhonda Nelson, of Waycross, and Tonya Nelson (husband, Allen), of North Carolina; her loving companions, Casey and Zoie; and numerous other relatives.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. today at Whitehall Community Church, 607 Homer St., Waycross.
Burial will be in Kettle Creek Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. today at the church.

William G. Howell Sr.
William G. “Bill” Howell Sr., 76, passed away Sunday afternoon (May 15, 2016) at Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross after an extended illness.

Curtis Postell, 75, died Saturday evening (May 14, 2016) at Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville, Fla., after an illness.

Charles W. Staggers
Deacon Charles Wesley Staggers, of 1128 Scuffletown Highway, Mershon, separated this life Wednesday (May 4, 2016) in Vidalia.
He was born April 8, 1935 in Kingstree, S.C., to the late Alton Sr. and Catherine Pressley Staggers. He attended Williamsburg County Public Schools.
At an early age, he left Kingstree to experience life in Miami, Fla. While living in Miami, he developed a passion for the art of grooming dogs.
After relocating to Alma, he continued his passion. In the year 2000 he married Minister Helen Smith as an early birthday gift on April 7. He was employed at Sammy Dixon Ford in Alma until the company closed. He later was employed with Walmart Super Center in Baxley, where he worked for five years until his health began to fail.
He attended Union Chapel Baptist Church in Mershon where he served faithfully as chairman of the deacon board and the choir president. He was also a member of the Alma Male Chorus which traveled to many towns and cities spreading the gospel through songs. He was also vice chairman of the annual Christmas Day service.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two brothers, Joe Staggers and Alton Staggers Jr., and two sisters, Alma Lee Staggers and Alberta Glasco.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories his loving and devoted wife, Minister Helen Staggers; siblings, Gene Edward, Columbia, S.C., Joan (Henry) Starks, West Palm Beach, Fla., Deloris Cooper, West Palm Beach, Fla., seven brothers-in-law, Thomas (Christine) Smith, James (Betty) Smith and Kenneth (Christine) Smith, all of Waycross, Louis (Lynette) Smith, of Blackshear, Quinton Smith, of Huntsville, Ala., Calvin Smith, of Mershon, and Richard Smith, of Savannah; two sisters-in-law, Wilta (Eugene) Givings, of Waycross, and Shirldon McElrory, of Blackshear; children, Kenneth Staggers, of Kingstree, S.C., Ralph Smiley, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Gregory (Omie) Smiley, of Dublin, Steve (Sharon) McGriff, of Jacksonville, Fla., Cedric Smith, of Welch, W.Va., Monica McGriff, of St. Marys, and Lashona (Jamie) Cooper, of Waycross; 13 grandchildren, Jamia, Tiesha, Charlyona, Michael Wilson, of North Carolina, Brian, Daquan, TyLandra, Shirley, Gregory Jr., Tashia, April and Junior; and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many friends whose lives he touched greatly.
The funeral was held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First African Baptist Church in Alma where Stephon Deen is the pastor, and Bishop L. C. Rogers offered words of comfort.
Interment followed in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Alma.
The viewing was held Saturday from 6 p.m. at Rainge Memorial Funeral Home.

Sandord M. Woodcock
PATTERSON — Sanford Malowe Woodcock, 58, of Patterson, passed away Saturday (May 14, 2016) at his residence.
Born in Blackshear, Dec. 30, 1957, he lived in Pierce County all of his life. He was a farmer and loved to fish.
Survivors include his parents, James Ward and Wylene Cason Woodcock, of Patterson; four sisters, Sherry Herrin, of Patterson, Tammy (L.M.) Lane, of Jesup, Alesia Deloach, of Douglas, and Wendy Edwards, of Waycross; three brothers, Anthony Woodcock and Eric Woodcock, both of Patterson, and Greg (Judie) Woodcock, of Brunswick; 10 nieces; five nephews, six great-nieces; seven great-nephews; and several other relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon in Mill Creek Cemetery.

A funeral for Joel Lance Strickland Sr. took place Sunday afternoon at Victory Methodist Church with the Rev. James A. Dirst, the Rev. Dwayne Tanner and the Rev. Jerry Baldree officiating.
Burial was in Victory Church Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were Brent Williams, Chas Wilburn, Rad Evans, Benjamin Waldron, Darian Hale and Brian Ragley.

Burial was in Hazzard Hill Cemetery.
