Barbara Bodenhamer
Barbara Jean Drawdy Bodenhamer, 78, died suddenly Monday (May 11, 2015) at her residence.
She was a native of Tifton, but she lived most of her life in Waycross. A former All State high school basketball player, she had been employed as a life insurance sales representative. She and her late husband owned and operated Southeastern Benefits and were members of First Baptist Church Waycross.
She was preceded in death by her birth mother, who died when she was 6 weeks old, Lonie Vada Mixon, her father and step-mother, Clyde and Monette Drawdy, her husband, Robert Edgar Bodenhamer Sr., and one brother, Jimmy Drawdy.
Survivors include one daughter, Beth Bodenhamer Odom (husband, Tom), of Hahira; two sons, Robert Edgar Bodenhamer Jr. (wife, Kathy), of Augusta, and Russell Bodenhamer (wife, Angie), of Blackshear; nine grandsons, Ed Bodenhamer III, Bill Bodehamer, Trey Odom, Andrew Odom, Matthew Odom, Mason Bodenhamer, Chris Inman, Logan Inman and Brad Inman; three great-grandchildren, Catherine, Claire and Hensley Odom; one brother, Don Branch, of Columbus; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Music Funeral Home Chapel.
A graveside service will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday at Oakridge Cemetery in Tifton.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 o’clock this evening at the funeral home.

Joe A. Smith
BAXLEY — Joe A. Smith, 86, of Baxley, died Tuesday (May 12, 2015).
He was born May 15, 1928 in Jeff Davis County to the late Joseph Walter Smith and Emma Sovenia Smith. He was a member of Red Oak Baptist Church.
He was an avid coon hunter, hog farmer, loved to fish, spend time with family and friends and was a butcher for Cauley’s Meats for 36 years before retirement.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Lillie Bell Peacock, Lena Mae Black, Frances Poe, and one brother, Russell Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Nola Smith, of Baxley; two sons and daughters-in-law, Stevie and Donna Smith and Andy and Carolyn Smith, all of Baxley; eight grandchildren, Little Joe (Christian) Smith, Ashley Redwine, Rebecca (Josh) Gardner, Michelle Smith, Katlyn (Kevin) Thompson, Samanthia Smith, Lynnsey (Cody) Crummey, Michael ( Tabatha) Thomas; and seven great-grandchildren, Kaylee Smith, Payton Smith, Jake Smith, Gracy Batchelor, Emma Redwine, Cooper Gardner and Levi Thomas.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Red Oak Baptist Church with the Rev. Daniel Harris, the Rev. Ron Ross, the Rev. Robbie Gill and the Rev. Denny Waters officiating.
Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers are Little Joe Smith, Josh Gardner, Jake Smith, Kevin Thompson, Michael Thomas and Cody Crummey.
Honorary pallbearers are the staff of Comfort Care Hospice and all in attendance.
Visitation will be this evening from 6 until 8 at Red Oak Baptist Church.

James J. Devlin Jr.
NAHUNTA — James Joseph Devlin Jr., 69, of Jesup, died Monday morning (May 11, 2015) at his residence after an extended illness.
Born in Brunswick, he was the son of James Joseph Devlin Sr. and Helen Virginia Walters Devlin.
He was a retired truck driver and attended Glynn Baptist Church of Thalmann. He served in the United States Army, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Survivors include his long time companion, Donna Moore; his children, Joey Devlin (Margaret), Gail Hudson, Angie Devlin (Pat Sylvia), Troy Devlin (Michelle), Barry Edwards, Brandon Davis, Raymond Davis, Frank C. Wheeler Jr., Joseph Wheeler, Frank Lee Wheeler and Julian King; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Missy Devlin; two nephews, Matt Devlin and Charlie Williams; and several other relatives.
Visitation will be held Thursday afternoon from 2 until 3 o’clock at Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.
A funeral will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Frye Funeral Home with the Rev. Darrell Joiner and the Rev. Joe Guthrie officiating.
A private burial will be held in Union Baptist Church Cemetery.
Arrangements are with Frye Funeral Home, Nahunta.

Martha Meeks Parker
METTER — Martha Ann Meeks Parker, 67, of Metter, died Monday (May 11, 2015) at her residence.
A retired nurse, she was a member of the Georgia Nurses Association, was a volunteer R.N. for Camp Independence and a member of Grace Community Church in Statesboro.
She is survived bu her husband, Guy Parker; son, Terry (Kathy) Dixon; daughter, Stacey (Charles) True; sister, Judy Strickland; step-son, Michael (Dawn) Parker; step-daughter, April Olsen; grandchildren, Bridget ( Chesley) Dixon, Ann Dixon, Hunter Dixon, Carson Parker, Kensley Parker, Parker Olsen, Patton Olsen and Sarah Olsen; great-grandchildren, Cooper Riner, Paxton Dixon, Jase Dixon and Emma Dixon; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grace Community Church with the Rev. Mike Holt officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service.
Burial will be in Lake Cemetery in Metter.
Visitation will be this evening from 5 until 8 o’clock at Wood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Charles True, J.B. Strickland, Chris Hackett, Chesley Dixon, Ben Hackett, John Olsen and Terry Dixon.

Frankie B. Buchanan
Frankie Booth Buchanan, 77, died Tuesday morning (May 12, 2015) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities following an extended illness.
She was born in Waycross but lived in Griffin most of her life before moving back to Manor in 1993. Early in her career, she started teaching at Blackshear High School and retired 33 years later from Griffin Tech. She was a member of Victory Methodist Church in Manor and the Ware County Retired Teachers Association.
She was a daughter of the late Henry Alton Booth Jr. and Doris Evelyn Murray Booth. She was married to the late Rev. Forrest Glen “Buddy” Buchanan and was also preceded in death by a sister, Dolores “Dolly” Booth, and a brother, Billy Alton Booth.
She is survived by a sister, Patricia Booth Mills, of Manor; a nephew, Ricky Mills (wife, Sandy), of Waycross; and a niece, Patricia Mills Herndon (husband, Ricky), of Baxley.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Victory Methodist Church in Manor. Burial will follow at Victory Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday morning at the church from 10 until 11 o’clock.

Sallie Parrish Bennett
BLACKSHEAR — The funeral for Sallie Ann Parrish Bennett, 75, was held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock in the Pearson-Dial Chapel.
Officiating was the Rev. Edmund Thrift.
Interment was in the Mershon Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Russell, Harley, Jason, Samantha, Orin and Phillip Bennett.
Pearson-Dial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Herbert E. Bond
A funeral for Herbert E. Bond was held Tuesday morning at Second Baptist Church with the Rev. Derwin Griffin and the Rev. J.D. Bowen officiating.
Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers were members of local law enforcement.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Senior Men’s Sunday School Class, Waycross Exchange Club and area public safety personnel.
Military honors were given by the United States Navy and Masonic Rites were given by the Frank C. Folks Lodge No. 192 F&AM.
