The Waycross Marine Corps League Detachment 1333 is hosting Family Day in lieu of its regular monthly meeting in June. It will take place at Lake Ware (formerly known as Shrine Lake), 5425 Jamestown Road, Saturday, June 18, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Members of the Marine Corps League and their families are invited to gather for food and fun for all ages, including a water slide for children.
All male and female Marines, FMF Corpsmen and their families are invited. Also invited are 2016 Marine Corps scholarship winners from Ware County High — Demetrius Hurst, Chloe Johnson and Nathan Tindall — and Pierce County High — Elizabeth King — and their families. The league always welcomes participation by any person who has a Marine family member or is interested in supporting the community activities of Detachment 1333: raising scholarship funds, sharing gifts with needy children, participating in parades and events, sharing with fellow Marines and more.
The MCL actively seeks information about members of any military branch due to return home from deployment or discharge that they might honor them.
Detachment meetings are on the third Thursday monthly at Captain Joe’s, 2010 Plant Ave. Meetings will resume on July 21. For more information, call Commandant Paul Guyer at 449-2370 or Senior Vice Commandant Merrill Tindall at (912) 614-4374.
